Miniature Billboards: Art as SOcial Commentary
WATCH a tutorial of this billboard lesson on 'The Art of Learning Through Artivism' with Crayola!
Objective: Artists will learn how art can function as social commentary and create their own miniature billboard.
Part One: Introduction and Brainstorming
For the first portion artists will answer the following guiding questions:
Is there an issue in your community you wish you could change? What is the issue and why do you want to change it?
Is there an issue in the world you wish you could change? What is the issue and why do you want to change it?
Choose one of the above issues as the inspiration for your billboard:
a) What words or text can you use to describe the issue and promote change?
b) What images can you use to depict the issue and promote change?
Artists will then design a billboard that informs others of the issue that is most important to you. Use images and text to share your thoughts and promote change.
Part Two: Creating and Presenting
During the second portion, artists will construct a miniature billboard using the template provided. Artists can draw, paint, or collage their designs. The final step is to cut and fold the paper to create a miniature billboard!
