Paula Liz (she/her/ella) was born in Puerto Rico and raised near Baltimore, Maryland. She earned her BFA in Painting and MAT in Art Education from the Maryland Institute College of Art. With over 15 years of teaching experience in public, independent, and charter schools across New York, Texas, Washington, D.C., and Maryland, Paula Liz has also brought her bilingual skills to teaching elementary art at a two-way immersion school. In 2022, she was recognized as the Maryland Art Educator of the Year.

Currently, Paula Liz serves as the Youth and Preservice Program Manager for the National Art Education Association. She is also the founder and Executive Director of Anti-Racist Art Teachers, a former Associate Chair of the NAEA Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Commission, former Treasurer of the Maryland Art Education Association, and a founding cohort member of the Maryland State Department of Education’s Anti-Racist Educators in the Arts Learning Lab (A-REALL).

Paula Liz has collaborated with organizations such as Crayola Education, Nasco Education, Art to Remember, EmbraceRace, and Deep Space Sparkle, among others. As an educational consultant and keynote speaker, she has facilitated professional development for art educators worldwide. Her writing has been featured in SchoolArts Magazine and Stenhouse Publishers.

In 2023, Paula Liz co-authored Anti-Racist Art Activities for Kids: 30+ Creative Projects that Celebrate Diversity and Inspire Change, and in 2024, she authored Be a Creative Changemaker: A Kids' Art Activity Book Inspired by the Amazing Life Stories of Diverse Artists from Around the World.

Outside of her professional work, Paula Liz enjoys traveling, running, and spending time with her two dogs.
