Kindergarten Figure Drawings
One of my Kindergarten units centers on the theme of identity. I think it is important that students understand and begin to explore the concept of identity at a young age (plus I get to learn a little bit about them as well)! We begin with the collage self-portrait paintings lesson and then move onto these self-portrait figure drawings.
 We learn how we can use shapes to draw different parts of our bodies, understanding that all of our bodies are different and unique. But by breaking it down step by step students build confidence in their skills and are able to use their creativity to enhance their drawings. For the background we create monochromatic textured paintings before placing their figure drawings on top.
As a precursor to this project I have students practice drawing toy figures from observation. Here are some examples of their toy figure drawings.Â
